Joining the beta

DriveStream is in private testing through Apple's TestFlight while CarPlay approval is pending. Email us at [email protected] with the Apple ID email you would like the invitation sent to, and we will add you.

Common questions

Why does DriveStream ask for "Always" location access?

Because recording a drive has to survive the screen locking. With "While Using the App", iOS suspends the app once your phone locks or you switch away, and route recording stops without any warning — you finish a two-hour drive and find almost none of it was logged. "Always" is what keeps it running in a cradle or a pocket. DriveStream only uses it while a drive or trip is active.

My drive recorded the time but almost no distance.

That is the symptom of location access being set to "While Using the App", or of Precise Location being switched off. Open iOS Settings → DriveStream → Location, choose Always, and make sure Precise Location is on. Both are needed for an accurate track.

Someone in my convoy isn't showing on the map.

They appear once they have joined the trip with the invite code and started sharing. Check that they granted location access, that they have signal, and that they are on the same trip — the six-character invite code on the Convoy tab should match.

How accurate is the fuel gauge?

It is an estimate, not a reading from your car. DriveStream starts from the tank level you set and subtracts fuel as you drive, using your car's efficiency. Logging refuels makes it learn your real km/l and get steadily more accurate. Correct it any time with Correct level on the Fuel tab. Never rely on it instead of your car's own gauge.

The walkie-talkie doesn't work when the app is in the background.

Background and Lock Screen press-to-talk needs an entitlement from Apple that is still pending. Until it is granted, the walkie-talkie works while DriveStream is open on screen.

Is DriveStream on CarPlay?

The CarPlay experience is built — a live convoy map, turn-by-turn guidance and a press-to-talk button — but Apple has to approve CarPlay navigation apps individually, and that request is in review. It will light up in an update once granted.

Can I use it without a group?

Yes. Drive solo records your route, speed and fuel with nothing shared with anyone.

How do I delete my account and data?

Email [email protected] from the address you signed up with. Everything is removed within 30 days and we confirm when it is done. See the privacy policy for what is stored.

Report a bug

Email us with what you expected, what happened, and the approximate time. If it involved a drive, tell us the trip name — that is usually enough to pin it down.

A word on driving safely

DriveStream is an aid, not an instruction. Follow the road, the signs and the law rather than the app, and set your destination before you move off — not while driving.
